Bridal Spray Tans

It’s natural to stress about things before your wedding day, but stressing about your tan shouldn’t be one of them. At BRONZIER, we know one size does not fit all when it comes to spray tans, and this is especially true when it comes to our #BronzierBrides! A good bridal spray tan should provide an even and natural-looking color that lasts your entire wedding week (and then some).

To ensure that you get that perfect wedding glow, keep the following in mind when booking your bridal spray tan. First, you’ll need to decide on the day to #BookYourBronze with us. There are several factors to consider when determining how many days to get a spray tan before your wedding, such as: how far away you live from the salon, what time of year it is, and which other beauty treatments you will have planned. Tanning should always be the last beauty treatment completed due to the barriers that spa treatment products can create.

You should also consider what look you are wanting - do you want a deep bronzed tan or more of a sunkissed glow? By figuring this out, we can expertly match you with one of our Bronzier Artists who will ensure you get the bridal glow of your dreams!

Let’s fast forward to the day before your spray tan.

Preferably, you’ve booked a mani/pedi prior to this day. If not and your mani/pedi is the day of your tan, we advise foregoing any oils/lotions that your nail technician might apply on you. If completed days after you tan, your tan may become uneven due to soaking, acetone, oils, lotions, etc. that your nail technician might apply on you.

Similarly, any waxing or shaving of unwanted body hair should be completed at least 48 hours prior to your appointment and shaving should be completed with a razor that lacks a moisture strip.

Be sure to shower and exfoliate thoroughly with a Kessa mitt. We advise against using a body scrub/loofah combo as most are oil-based and will leave a residue. Additionally, avoid using any bar soaps or cream-based body washes. Bar soaps/cream-based body washes (specifically Dove) are known to leave a residue on the skin and can create a barrier that the tan cannot penetrate through and may leave streaks. Any gel-based body wash is best. Showering should be completed at least FOUR hours prior to tanning to allow your pH levels to neutralize. If you must shower within four hours, run cold water at the end of your shower to close up your pores.

The day for your spray tan has arrived!

Some important things to keep in mind before arriving at the studio: prior to your arrival, do not apply any lotions, oils, deodorant, perfumes, or makeup. All of these can create a barrier on the skin that the tan will not adhere to. If you have any of these products on, we recommend that you use a micellar wipe to remove. Do not use a Neutrogena makeup wipe as these are very oily and will create more of a barrier!

Be sure to wear dark, loose-fitting clothing with open-toed sandals. Any tight clothing put on immediately after the tan can result in unwanted lines due to friction. Please note that the bronzer in solution may transfer to your items, but is water soluble and should wash out.

Let’s Talk Tan Maintenance…

Don’t get wet or sweat until your initial rinse. If you accidentally spill water on yourself or if your pet licks you, take a fluffy makeup brush and use circular motions to buff and blend out the solution. You can also use a very small amount of self-tanner on your makeup brush to help blend. Understand that the bronzer will not appear "perfect" after, but once rinsed off, the tan will be evened out.

When you initially rinse off, rinse in lukewarm water with no soap. You’ll see most of the bronzer wash away down the drain, which is normal! If you do not rinse at your designated time (2-4 hours post tan for rapid solution, 8-12 hours for standard solution), your tan may develop too light or too dark. If you urinate in the shower during your rinse, the ammonia can cause streaking. If you see streaks after getting out of the shower, hop back in and use your hand to guide the leftover bronzer off.

Wait until your color is fully developed to moisturize. All tans will take about 24 hours to be fully developed. Any product applied to the skin during this time can hinder the results. It is best to moisturize with a lotion that is free of any artificial fragrances or mineral oil, as these will strip a tan very quickly.

Be sure to moisturize both in the morning and at night, as the more hydrated your skin is, the longer your tan will last. Your moisturizer should be free of mineral oil and artificial fragrance. Please be aware that if you use any acne/retinol products, your face may become blotchy.

Avoid swimming, long hot showers/baths, saunas, and excessive sweating. Your tan will not last very long if you are planning to do any of these activities!

Lastly, do not exfoliate until your tan is at the end of its life. We advise against using any loofahs or wash rags during your showers. It is best to wash with hands only in areas where needed (pits + privates) to ensure a long-lasting tan!
