4 Ways To Exfoliate Before Your Next Spray Tan

A perfectly bronzed complexion starts with the right prep work. At Bronzier, we believe that proper exfoliation is key to achieving an even, natural-looking sunless tan. By removing dull, dead skin cells, you'll create a smooth, fresh canvas for the tanning solution to adhere to flawlessly. Let's explore four ways to exfoliate before your next spray tan appointment.

1. Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is a gentle, invigorating exfoliation method that will leave your skin feeling like silk. Use a brush with firm, natural bristles and brush your body in long, circular motions before showering. Pay extra attention to areas prone to dryness and buildup, like elbows, knees, and ankles. Not only will dry brushing slough off dead cells, but it also promotes healthy circulation and lymphatic drainage.

2. Exfoliating Mitt

Treat yourself to a spa-like experience with a Kessa Exfoliating Mitt. First, enjoy a warm to hot shower for five minutes to open your pores and soften your skin. Then, step away from the water and gently scrub your body with the mitt, using circular motions. The kessa material will visibly buff away dullness, revealing new, fresh skin without irritation.

3. Body Scrubs

Natural salt or sugar scrubs are effective pre-tan exfoliants. Look for organic scrubs with ingredients like pink Himalayan salt, coconut oil, or brown sugar. In the shower, gently massage the scrub into damp skin using circular motions. It is crucial to rinse thoroughly after using a scrub as it could contain oils that can stay on the skin resulting in a barrier before getting a spray tan.

4. Chemical Exfoliants (With Caution)

While physical exfoliation is generally recommended, some may prefer chemical exfoliants like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). However, use these with caution, as over-exfoliation can lead to irritation and sensitivity. Always follow product instructions and avoid using chemical exfoliants too close to your spray tan appointment.

No matter which exfoliation method you choose, we recommend preparing your skin at least 24 hours before your appointment. This allows your skin to recover and your pores to seal, creating the ideal canvas for an even, long-lasting tan application. Our expert spray tan artists are always happy to provide personalized exfoliation recommendations based on your unique skin type and needs.
